Do you feel pain when you drink cold water or eat sweets? That sharp, short pain means your teeth are sensitive. It’s a common problem, but it can be easily treated with the right care.
Sensitivity happens when the enamel — the outer layer of your teeth — wears off or your gums pull back, exposing the root. This allows heat, cold, or sweet foods to reach the nerves inside your teeth.
Common causes include brushing too hard, grinding teeth at night, eating acidic foods, gum problems, or worn fillings.
Use a toothpaste made for sensitive teeth and brush gently using a soft-bristled brush. Avoid cold drinks, sour fruits, and sodas. Do not brush immediately after eating acidic food — wait at least 30 minutes.
If the pain continues, visit your dentist. They might apply fluoride gel, bonding material, or treat gum recession to cover exposed areas. With regular dental visits and proper home care, you can enjoy your favorite food without pain again!
Don’t ignore sensitivity — it’s your tooth’s way of asking for care.
