This is the story of a 25-year-old female patient who came to us through a kind referral from one of our earlier patients. She had been advised to undergo a major jaw surgery elsewhere, where they suspected a serious bone infection called osteomyelitis. The treatment plan suggested included resection of mandibular symphysis(removal of front portion of the lower jaw eventually replacing it with a bone from left leg) costing heavily emotionally and financially.
But the patient and her family were not fully convinced. They came to us for a second opinion—and we’re glad they did.
After a careful clinical and radiographic evaluation, we found that the case did not require such aggressive treatment. We planned a conservative surgical procedure instead, along with root canal treatments for the related teeth.
The surgery was performed smoothly. The cyst was completely removed, and samples were sent for histopathological testing. The results came back confirming it was a very common and benign cyst—nothing to worry about.
What makes this case truly special is that the patient not only avoided an unnecessary complex surgery and leg bone removal, but we also completed her entire treatment at just one-tenth of the previously quoted amount.
We’re proud to have given this patient the right treatment at the right time, saving both her health and her pocket. This case reminds us how important a correct diagnosis and second opinion can be.
